After reading the book Radical in 2010 I promised God I would take a mission trip every year. And in years I couldn’t go, I would pay for someone else to go. Because I believe we are all to go…to the ends of the earth. To share the love of God.
I thought initially God was sending me to break my heart for the children we were going to work with. But that was not his plan for me at all. He gave me eyes and a heart for the people that serve the children every day. My mission and heart has been to serve the missionaries that pour out every day.
“Who is pouring into them?” God whispered to me. I assumed many others. But that is not the case.
I have learned that far too many missionaries in the field feel forgotten, and are not being cared for “in a manner worthy of God.” 3 John 6-8 “For they have gone out for the sake of the name, therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.”
We are not all to play the same role. My role is to care for them. To encourage, love, pray for them, spend time with them, contribute to their need and tell their stories! These are the people I want to surround myself and family with. People who have given themselves and their lives completely to God, to love. I have seen more of God through them and am so grateful to know them, to call them friends.
There are so many books about successful and extraordinary people, but I couldn’t find one that celebrates a collection of amazing missionaries and their stories to learn from.
